Questions and Answers
What happens at an information session?
You’ll learn what foster care is, why there is a need in our community, what it’s like to be a foster parent, and the steps to get started. There’s also time to ask questions.
How long does the session last?
About 1.5 to 2 hours.
Do I need to register in advance or RSVP?
We do ask that you RSVP to the session so we have adequate materials prepared for you.
Can I bring my children?
Unfortunately, we don’t offer child care at the info sessions.
Can I attend without committing to foster?
Yes. There is no obligation—this is simply a chance to learn and explore.
Is there a cost to attend?
No, the session is completely free.
Who is this information session for?
Anyone interested in learning more about foster care and supporting children in our community.
What if I’m just curious and not sure yet?
That’s perfectly okay. Many people attend just to learn more before deciding if it’s right for them.
What does it mean to be a foster parent?
Foster parents provide a safe, stable, and caring home for children while their families work toward reunification.
What types of children need foster homes?
Children of all ages need homes, including school-aged children and teens, many of whom benefit from staying in their same community and school.
Can I choose the age of the child I foster?
Yes. You can share your preferences and comfort level during the process.
What are the requirements to become a foster parent?
Requirements typically include being at least 18, passing background checks, and having a safe and stable home.
Can I work full-time and still foster?
Yes, many foster parents work full-time and successfully care for children with the right support. There is also a professional foster care program, Enhanced Care, where parents are provided professional wages to remain at home and care for those children who are most in need of full time support.
What is the first step after the session?
If you’re interested, The first step is to complete an application and complete a background check via submitting your fingerprints. Once approved, you’ll then begin the training process with guidance from our team following the information session. You will have support throughout the entire process!
